About BC Viols

BC Viols is a chapter of the Viola da Gamba Society of America (VdGSA)

We aim to connect and support all the viol players and aspiring viol players of British Columbia.

Our Mission

Our Vision

The BC chapter encompasses several regions:

the Vancouver region

the Sunshine Coast region

the Vancouver Island region .

Victoria sub-region

Nanaimo sub-region

the Interior region

There are players of all levels and all sizes of viol in the Vancouver region. For many years, viola da gamba players got together every Monday at Colin Miles’s home for consort reading sessions. Now, the sessions  occur less regularly, but players are still keen to play whenever they have a  chance.

In the Nanaimo sub-region, Deborah Vandergoes teaches viol, and organizes playing sessions that attract players from other parts of the Island, including Victoria.

On the Sunshine Coast, our President, Sarah Poon, is very active teaching, playing, organizing playing sessions, and promoting the Viola da Gamba!
